Jack in the Box... Surprise!
The new issue of Maclean’s made me laugh out loud.

Rule #10: Photographs over Illustrations

While it may be true most of the time, there are times when only an illustration can get the job done. And some of the greatest covers of all time have been illustrations. See Hall of Fame: http://www.coverssell.com/?cat=16

In case anyone thought Maclean’s didn’t have a sense of humour, take note of the Rick Mercer skybar. Mercer, now teamed up with Feschuk as regular columnists, make Maclean’s not only essential reading for political junkies, but adds a ton of humour to make it entertaining and enlightening at the same time. Can’t wait to see how they handle the “Velvet Touch” rub and tug. Jack be nimble, Jack be quick.

Art director Jason Logan had this to say about the cover: “I was happy with the Layton cover’s quick punch. Visually I think the trick with politics in Canada is to cut through the clutter of 'men in grey suits.'  People can get tired of the same old faces and the same serious tone. We wanted to turn peoples heads, and humour was one way to do that.”
