Canzine West returns this fall
Saying “why should Toronto have all the fun?” Canzine West, Fair and Festival of Alternative Culture is returning to Vancouver this October 16.

Toronto-based Broken Pencil first hosted the festival in 1999. Canzine West, the Vancouver equivalent hasn’t been in operation since 2006 due to the logistical issues of organizing an event across Canada. This year Vancouver-based OCW Magazine publisher and editor Tracey Stefanucci stepped up to provide the West Coast support necessary to bring the event back to the city.

The festival is an opportunity for vendors to reach an audience which is passionate about arts and culture and reads magazines, says Stefanucci. “Vancouver’s indie magazines are tapping into niche audiences that more mainstream publishers should also be aware of and are creating quality publications that showcase new talent in writing, art, and design — as well as up-and-coming members of the professional publishing community,” she says. “When considering whether or not to attend, it’s worth remembering that many good ideas  — and likely many magazines  — started in the trenches of indie arts and culture.”

Canzine West is October 16 at W2 Storyeum, 151 West Cordova Street in Vancouver. For more information, visit Brokenpencil.com/canzine.
