Until April 24, the Grolier Club is featuring an exhibition called Magazines and the American Experience, featuring about 200 rare and unique titles from a collection owned by Dr. Steven Lomazow, a neurologist and magazine enthusiast, that includes more than 80,000 issues.
The exhibition is divided into two sections, beginning with a chronological history of American magazines from 1733 to the present. The second is devoted to genres of popular culture that became a major focus of American magazines in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
These include American artists and humourists, the ongoing struggle of African Americans to achieve equality, a salute to baseball, and the development of radio, television, and motion pictures.
Catch it online on the Grolier Club online exhibition page.
