Kevin Kelly, "senior maverick" and founding executive editor of Wired magazine, speaks in Toronto Jan. 27 at FFWD Advertising & Marketing Week 2014.

His talk "Future Technologies of Disruption: the Evolution of Content" will address the shifting media audience and look at how the landscape will continue to change over the next couple of decades.

The key word is 'attention.' "Attention is being directed by a handful of technological forces in unexpected ways. Innovations such as big data, the quantified self, location tracking, peerage, and real time can all be understood as attention technology," reads a FFWD summary.

Kelly helped launch Wired in 1993 and served as executive editor until January 1999. He is now the editor and publisher of the website Cool Tools, which overages 1 million monthly visitors. Cool Tools also recently released a printed book edition, which New York Times columnist David Carr originally called a "dumb idea" but has since recanted following the book's success.

Kelly was also publisher and editor of the Whole Earth Review, and his writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, Time, Harpers, Science, GQ, and Esquire.

Other FFWD events, held Jan. 27 to Jan. 31 at various venues, include a TC Media opening day breakfast, and speaking engagements by Yahoo marketer Robert Bridge, Marketing magazine editor David Thomas, Facebook Canada's Steve Irvine, astronaut and internet celeb Colonel Chris Hadfield, and more.
