New magazine celebrates traditional media
A youthful passion for traditional media has led to a new magazine celebrating print, art and culture.

Go Home Magazine is curated and published by Shanley Maguire, a student of Ryerson's Graphic Communications Management program, and Emma Sharpe, a recent graduate of Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.

The goal of Go Home Magazine, a quarterly publication, "is to showcase creativity through independent print and publishing," noted Sharpe. "Though the first issue was based on analogue photography, the content of the magazine will grow through time."

She added, "we are looking to marry traditional print sensibilities with the benefits of modern communications. We want to cultivate an appreciation for traditional methods and the tangibility of printed matter."

The print run for the first issue was a modest 250 copies, printed at Goldrich Printpak in Toronto. The magazine is currently being funded out-of-pocket by the pair. "As funds increase we're hoping to increase the number of copies per issue," she said. They're using several printers for the magazine's associated merchandise; some of the  buttons were pressed by one of the magazine's contributors, Brendan Megannety, and shirts were produced at Astro Screen Printing in Etobicoke.

The magazine and merchandise are currently being sold through an online store. June Records, a store on College Street in Toronto and host to the magazine's recent launch party, has copies of the first issue being sold on commission, while a subscription of four copies is available for $45 according to the magazine's website.

"We are in the process of contacting stores and possible stocklists in Canada and beyond. We want to reach as many different audiences as we can, starting in the independent print and creative fields," noted Sharpe.
