The Kit has a new editor-in-chief

Laura deCarufel is the newly appointed editor-in-chief of The Kit, a Canadian beauty and style publication.

deCarufel comes to The Kit from Elle Canada where she held the position of executive editor. She has also worked at Fashion magazine, The Look and Elm Street, and launched Hardly Magazine, an online arts and style magazine for teenage girls.

“I'm absolutely thrilled to join The Kit,” deCarufel said. “It's a true 21st-century brand: smart, playful, cool, a little bit cheeky and authentically multi-platform. The team is also sensational. We have a busy year ahead, as we launch exciting new projects and celebrate The Kit's fifth anniversary. We'll also be evolving the brand to be the essential fashion and beauty read for women of all ages. I can't wait to get started.”

Aug. 4 marks deCarufel’s first official day on the job, until then she will be involved in the magazines key initiatives.

The Kit—currently celebrating its fifth anniversary—includes seven digital beauty guides per year, three weekly e-newsletters, an integrated website and a weekly paper feature in select copies of the Toronto Star, Ottawa Citizen, Montreal Gazette, Calgary Herald, Edmonton Journal, and Vancouver Sun. A French and Chinese-language paper edition is published once per month and there are plans to launch a pop-up magazine in the fall of this year, geared towards millennials.
