Magazines Canada has announce that the third annual Magazines Canada Fellow is Sharine Taylor, a Toronto-based music and culture writer and editor. She is also the Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of BASHY Magazine, a quarterly print and digital publication made by and for Jamaica and its diaspora. Currently a contributing writer at Noisey, she has written on and about Jamaica and Caribbean music, culture and news, and her bylines have appeared on Dazed, Nylon, The FADER, Hazlitt, Shondaland, ReWire, BuzzFeed, Pitchfork, in addition to many other notable publications.

Taylor's Jamaican heritage largely informs her work and approach to media-making. Through BASHY Magazine, Taylor makes editorial space for her community by centering Jamaican identities and stories both on the island and in the diaspora. She also runs BASHY's skill-based incubator and mentorship program, Uprising, which provides media makers of Jamaican heritage with the tools needed to begin digital and print publishing.

Every year, Magazines Canada Fellows have the opportunity to select their host magazine from eligible expressions of interest. Taylor has elected to work atAzure, an award-winning magazine based in Toronto that focuses on contemporary architecture and design with an international perspective and multidisciplinary coverage.
